We start off 2015 and the era of bigger, higher quality smartphone pictures with the Journey guy. This is a mostly fantastic Jack Skellington costume held back a little by that visible human neck.Heartless, bloodsoaked Alice here is combining three different fascinations from my childhood, one comforting, one seductive, and one terrifying. One of my favorite joke costumes of any year. There’s a Trinity later on. I don’t know if they came together, but I found them separately. There, a space marine. This is a Dark Heresy post now. It’s real content.Trinity as promised.Found him!I don’t know who these people are dressed as, but the costumes are fantastic.
Salt Lake Comic-Con III (September 2015)
This was a fantastic year for couple and group costumes. Random aside: WordPress thinks I’m uploading these images in 2018. Suffice to say that this is a little inaccurate.I can’t remember if Cousin It here is a cosplay or a prop. I’m leaning towards prop, but I’ve seen some cosplays that looked like statues until they moved, so I’m not ruling out the possibility that there’s an eight year old under there.Have I mentioned how much I like Silent Hill?Carmen Sandiego doesn’t show up to every convention. That, or she’s better at hiding than Waldo. So many good group costumes this year.I’m pretty sure this is from a specific anime interpretation of Alice in Wonderland, but I’m not familiar with it.I’m not really sure exactly who these people are supposed to be, but they look cool. Third from the left looks kinda Dany?It was a good year for Mandalorians.Seriously, just so many group costumes.Look, another space marine. Now it’s like you got two Dark Heresy posts. Your cup runneth over. Two for one!Borderlands bandits are another Alice/Avatar costume group. They’re never a very dominant costume group, but they’re always around. You get the odd Moxxi costume, too.
FanX III (March 2016)
The boombox you can see clipped to Papyrus’ bag played Bonetrousle. There were a lot of sailor scouts this year.I dunno if these guys all came together or if there just happened to be four engineers and they all posed together. This is another one of those “don’t know whot his is, but she looks cool” costumes. There’s a xenomorph at almost every convention, but this is the first time I’ve seen a group costume.Sith are my favorite villains.Found him!
Salt Lake Comic Con IV (September 2016)
By total coincidence, I had fairly recently played the Half-Life games for the first time when I went to this convention.Found him!Netflix showed up with some people to advertise a new season of Orange Is The New Black.Oh! Tie bo! Like tae bo, but they’re – yes!I always respect when someone cosplays something crazy, like an AT-ST or a dragon or Sharknado.I love this GLaDOS.This has never made sense to me. Why is Mystique naked all the time? I know in First Class they tried to justify it as some kind of mutant pride, but just being blue would’ve established that on its own. Being naked in public is unnecessary.Jesus the 2016 election season was a shitshow.Suicide Squad might’ve been a train wreck, but it had some pretty good costume designs.
Salt Lake FanX IV (March 2017)
This was the best Disney movie.I can’t remember if I had to donate $5 to some charity for this picture or if a bunch of Jedi just showed up and posed.Whenever I see Team Skull, all I can think of is the Door Monster sketch. This is Trolls’ Alley, which I named because of the density of Homestuck trolls hanging out there the first few cons. It was practically deserted this year. This is probably at least partly a result of FanX selling a limited number of tickets to cultivate a smaller convention than the main Comic Con (for some reason).
Now I know what you’re thinking. And yes, Waldo did get away from me at FanX IV. I did catch that two for one in Comic-Con II, though, so I’m still on target for Waldos per year.
